Pediatrics is a branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children and adolescents. Children are different from adults in physiological, psychological as well as mental aspects. Their physical, mental and social requirements need special attention. The illnesses which they suffer from also need to be treated differently. Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill or premature newborn. It is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
